Your healthcare benefits will apply as normal if you’re diagnosed with the Coronavirus. Hospital charges or out-patient care, medical practitioner charges for consultations and treatment for cold, flu, viral infections and/or coronavirus symptoms, including pneumonia up to the limit of your chosen benefit level are covered. You can check your policy benefits in your membership handbook, which is available to view here. Alternatively, you can call us if you’re unsure.
If you contract the Coronavirus whilst you’re covered by the ‘Health Without Borders’ International health plan without exclusions for respiratory disease, this will not affect your ability to claim in the futureuntil the end of the current insurance policy. No additional terms will be added to your insurance certificate as a result of you contracting this virus while you’re covered by your plan.
Your area of cover will not change, but there may be local restrictions in place around travelling or around which hospitals are able to treat the virus. In order to access the right level of care, please refer to the guidance in your local area.
If you’re experiencing any of the main symptoms of the disease, which include a fever, cough and, in the most severe cases, shortness of breath, you should contact your GP.

If you are outside the territory of Bulgaria you must strictly follow the instructions of the local Crisis Staff, as well as immediately contact us at + 359 (0) 700 13 555 and give us detailed information about your location, the hospital where you are accommodated so we can initiate the pre-confirmation process for your treatment together with AXA's Global Healthcare partner team.
Before travelling, it’s important that you check the warnings and restrictions travel restrictions imposed by the Bulgarian state or the country where you are, in the country you’re travelling to – you can read up-to-date information on measures and restrictions in Europe and worldwide on Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.
Your usual ‘Health Without Borders’ International health plan benefits, terms and conditions will apply if you become ill and need treatment whilst in an unrestricted country.
Your usual policy terms and conditions apply. We do not cover the costs of preventive/ precautionary medical examinations and testsfor any diseases, including coronavirus (see "Exclusions and Limitations", page 30/p. (cc) Routine & preventativecare).
If, despite the recommendations and instructions of the authorities in your country, on measures and restrictions adopted on the coronavirus for the freedom of movement of citizens around the world, you have traveled to a country on the restrictive list, you will not be covered for any treatment of the Coronavirus.
Please note that, in accordance with the Handbook & Membership Agreement p.14 item xi), you are not covered for emergency evacuation or repatriation if the emergency occurs when you are on a leisure trip to a destination to which the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office either advises against all travel or advises against all travel on holiday or non-essential business.
If you’re suspected to have, or have been diagnosed with coronavirus and aren’t able to receive the treatment you need where you are, the usual evacuation and repatriation benefit will be available to you. Please be aware, that travel restrictions could impact the ability for the evacuation and repatriation to be carried out.
If your policy includes ambulance cover and the ambulance transportation is medically necessary, the ambulance costs would be covered. It’s important that you check the local guidance on ambulance use for the virus, as there may be some restrictions in place.
